A Queensland Coal Board Medical (Coal Mine Workers Health Assessment) is the statutory health check workers must complete to work at a Queensland coal mine, under Resources Safety and Health Queensland's (RSHQ) Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme. ILO chest X-rays follow a similar process to standard chest X-rays, but the images are subject to different reporting requirements. The ILO standard was introduced by the International Labour Organisation for the international classification of radiographs of pneumoconiosis.
Under legislation, only accredited radiology centres can conduct ILO chest X-rays — we coordinate this as part of your worker’s assessment.
Once the medical has been completed, an Appointed Medical Adviser (AMA) completes the Health Assessment Report (previously known as Section 4).
This report is the only information from the Coal Board Medical that the employer is privy to — keeping the worker’s underlying clinical data confidential while giving you a clear, defensible fitness outcome.
The CMWHS exists primarily to detect respiratory disease early — particularly Coal Workers’ Pneumoconiosis (CWP). Consistent ILO imaging, B-reader review and periodic spirometry give workers and employers the best chance of catching changes early, when intervention still preserves long-term lung function.
