Physical examination
A general physical assessment — height, weight, blood pressure and a review of cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal health.
Vision & colour testing
Visual acuity and colour vision are tested to confirm the seafarer meets the standards set for safe work at sea.
Audiometry
A short hearing test to confirm auditory function meets the requirements for working safely on a vessel.
Medical history review
A clinician walks through past illnesses, surgeries, chronic conditions and current medications, and reviews relevant body systems.
Pathology
Blood and urine samples are taken to screen for diabetes, kidney and liver function, and other conditions that could affect fitness for duty.
Mental health screen
A brief mental-health assessment helps identify any conditions that could affect the seafarer’s ability to work safely at sea.
