Quick answer

The short version

An OEUK (Offshore Energies UK) medical — formerly the UKOOA / Oil & Gas UK medical — is the fitness-for-work examination workers must complete before being mobilised to an offshore oil and gas environment. Only doctors registered and accredited with OEUK can perform the assessment and issue the certificate. KINNECT coordinates OEUK medicals nationally through a register of accredited practitioners, covering audiometry, urinalysis, vision, medical history and a full medical examination, with optional spirometry, vaccinations and drug & alcohol screening when your site requires it.

What it is

The offshore medical, performed by OEUK-accredited doctors.

An OEUK medical is the fitness-for-work examination workers must complete before being deployed to an offshore oil and gas environment. Formerly known as the UKOOA and then Oil & Gas UK medical, the standard and certificate were rebranded when the UK industry body became Offshore Energies UK.

Only doctors registered and accredited with OEUK can perform the assessment and issue an OEUK-accredited certificate. KINNECT maintains a national register of accredited practitioners — all trained in offshore medical assessment, with a working understanding of the offshore environment your workers will be entering.

What’s included

What happens on the day.

Your worker attends a single appointment with an OEUK-accredited doctor. The standard assessment covers the core OEUK requirements; any site-specific add-ons are typically completed in the same visit.

Standard OEUK assessment

  • Audiometry
  • Urinalysis
  • Vision
  • Medical history
  • Full medical examination
  • Sign-off by an OEUK-accredited doctor

Optional site add-ons

Depending on your employer or the operator’s site requirements, your worker may also need:

  • Spirometry
  • Vaccinations
  • Drug & alcohol screen

Tell us upfront and we’ll package the add-ons into the same appointment so your worker only attends once.

How it works

From booking to certificate, in four steps.

We coordinate the doctor, clinic and any add-ons so your worker can attend one appointment and you receive the OEUK certificate ready for mobilisation.

  1. 01

    Tell us where you’re mobilising

Share the worker’s role, destination and any site-specific add-ons (spirometry, vaccinations, D&A) so we can match the right OEUK-accredited doctor.

  2. 02

    Book at an accredited clinic

We schedule the medical at the closest KINNECT clinic with an OEUK-accredited practitioner on our national register.

  3. 03

    Examination on the day

Audiometry, urinalysis, vision, medical history and a full medical examination — with any optional add-ons completed in the same visit where possible.

  4. 04

    OEUK certificate issued

Your accredited doctor reviews and issues the OEUK certificate, and we return the result to you so your worker can mobilise.

FAQs

OEUK medical questions, answered.

The questions employers and workers ask most often about OEUK medicals, accreditation and certificate validity.

What is an OEUK medical?

An OEUK (Offshore Energies UK) medical is the fitness-for-work examination required for workers being deployed to an offshore oil and gas environment under UK operator standards. It was formerly known as the UKOOA (UK Offshore Operators Association) and Oil & Gas UK medical — the standard and certificate were rebranded when the industry body became OEUK.

Who can perform an OEUK medical?

Only medical practitioners registered and accredited with OEUK can perform the assessment and issue an OEUK-accredited medical certificate. KINNECT maintains a national register of OEUK-accredited practitioners who have completed the required training in offshore medical assessment and understand the offshore working environment.

What’s included in an OEUK medical?

A standard OEUK medical includes audiometry, urinalysis, vision testing, a detailed medical history and a full medical examination, with the certificate signed off by an OEUK-accredited doctor following the OEUK Medical Guidelines. Depending on your employer or the site’s requirements, spirometry, vaccinations and/or a drug and alcohol screen may also be required — we can package these into the same appointment.

How long is an OEUK certificate valid?

OEUK certificates are typically valid for up to two years, with shorter validity periods possible at the examining doctor’s discretion based on the worker’s health profile and role. Always confirm the validity period required by your specific operator or site before mobilising.

Can KINNECT deliver OEUK medicals outside of major capitals?

Yes — our OEUK-accredited practitioner network is national, so we can usually arrange a medical close to where your worker lives or is being mobilised from. Contact our team with the worker’s location and we’ll confirm the nearest accredited clinic.
