Thorough documentation of the physical and psychological requirements of a role — built onsite by KINNECT clinicians — so you can manage risk, support recovery and make better hiring decisions.

Quick answer

The short version

A KINNECT Job Dictionary (also called a Job Task Analysis) is a documented, photo-supported profile of the physical and psychological demands of a role. Built by experienced KINNECT clinicians through an onsite task evaluation, it gives employers, treating doctors and workplace rehabilitation providers objective data to inform pre-employment testing, injury prevention and suitable-duties decisions when an injury occurs. Available in Basic or Comprehensive physical formats, plus a Psychological Demands edition.

What it is

A documented profile of the real demands of a role.

A Job Dictionary — sometimes called a Job Task Analysis — profiles the specific tasks associated with a role and identifies the potential risks. It provides the objective information that employers, treating doctors and allied health professionals need to understand the physical and psychological requirements of the work.

KINNECT Job Dictionaries are proven to reduce injury rates, support injury management and return-to-work programs, and inform pre-employment testing — by replacing assumptions with measured, photographed and clinician-validated data.

A KINNECT Job Dictionary will help you

  • Base Pre-Employment Assessments on real, objective job demand data
  • Build Suitable Duties Plans with clear information about what an injured worker can do
  • Give treating clinicians the detail they need to make informed return-to-work decisions
  • Target injury prevention initiatives at the actual risks in each role
  • Document psychosocial as well as physical demands
  • Capture rostered hours, PPE, equipment and environmental exposures in one place
How it works

From site visit to signed-off dictionary.

A simple, repeatable two-step process — designed so the final document is accurate, usable and trusted by everyone who relies on it.

  1. 1

    Scope the roles

We work with you to determine which roles to profile, the depth of detail you need, and whether physical, psychological — or both — should be covered.

  2. 2

    Onsite task evaluation

A KINNECT clinician visits the workplace, reviews job descriptions, interviews and observes workers and records weights, heights, forces, durations, repetitions and photographs.

  3. 3

    Job dictionary drafted

The clinician collates the data, prepares each task analysis and builds a Suitable Duties Checklist summarising the duties available if a worker were injured.

  4. 4

    Review, finalise & deliver

You receive a free review of the draft with the consultant. Once signed off, you get hard and digital copies — with the site-specific photographs embedded.

What we capture

The detail that makes a Job Dictionary useful.

Every dictionary covers the same three dimensions of work — so the resulting document stands up to clinical, operational and compliance scrutiny.

  • General

    • Role description and duties performed
    • Rostered days, shift duration, breaks
    • Equipment and tools used
    • Uniform and PPE worn
    • Environmental exposures — heat, dust, noise, vibration, animals
  • Physical

    • Postures, functional demands and movement patterns
    • Frequency, duration and repetition of each demand
    • Number of workers required (team lifts)
    • Weights, forces, pushing and pulling
    • Surfaces and terrain of the workplace
    • Critical functional demands with photographs
  • Psychological

    • Concentration and attention to detail required
    • Time pressures and multi-tasking
    • Supervision of others — and how many
    • Decision-making requirements and impacts
    • Other cognitive demands of the role
Standards & methodology

Demand levels rated to recognised standards.

Every role we profile is rated for overall physical demand — sedentary, light, medium, heavy or very heavy — using DOT-aligned criteria based on the weight handled and how often it’s handled. Overall psychological demand is rated as low, moderate or high. The result: a common language treating clinicians, insurers and operational leaders all understand.

Suitable Duties Checklist

Every KINNECT Job Dictionary includes our signature Suitable Duties Checklist — categorising potential duties as sedentary, light, medium or heavy (physical) and low, moderate or high (cognitive) so a treating doctor can quickly identify duties an injured worker can safely perform.

Built by KINNECT clinicians

Dictionaries are written by experienced Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Rehabilitation Counsellors or Psychologists — selected to match the demands of the role being profiled.

Frequently asked

Common questions about KINNECT Job Dictionaries.

  • How is my business consulted during the Job Dictionary development?

It is standard KINNECT practice for every Job Dictionary to be reviewed in draft form before finalisation. Each engagement includes a review with the consultant to ensure the document is an accurate reflection of the demands. If additional reviews or amendments are needed, our team can confirm the scope with you.

  • What’s unique about a KINNECT Job Dictionary?

Every dictionary includes the KINNECT Suitable Duties Checklist — a clear summary of potential duties an injured worker could perform, categorised by physical and cognitive demand. This eliminates the risk of a worker being wrongly issued a total incapacity certificate when suitable duties are in fact available.

  • How long does a site visit take?

Site visits vary by role and dictionary type. As a guide, expect a KINNECT consultant onsite for around 2 hours for a Basic Job Dictionary and around 4 hours for a Comprehensive Job Dictionary — with additional time afterwards to write and finalise the report.

  • Can a Job Dictionary cover psychological demands too?

Yes. We offer a dedicated Psychological Demands edition, and our Comprehensive physical dictionaries also capture cognitive load, time pressure, supervision and other psychosocial factors as part of the broader profile.

Ready to get started?

Document the demands. Manage the risk.

Tell us about the roles you want profiled — we’ll scope the right level of dictionary, schedule the onsite visit and have your team holding an evidence-based document fast.
