Allied Health Student Placements
Information for Universities & Placement Officers
Not all students choose to follow a clinical career pathway.
That’s why KINNECT offers prac placements for your university’s allied health students to explore a career in workplace rehabilitation and occupational health in any year of their degree.
Why should students undertake a placement with KINNECT?
A sense of purpose
Our mission is to help people, and a KINNECT Student Placement or Internship not only gives students hands-on learning opportunities with real cases, but a placement with purpose helping injured or ill workers return to their occupations.
Graduate & Career Opportunities
As a growing business, we’re always looking for talented people to join our team. Placement students in their final year are invited to talk to us about available career opportunities and can even secure a role in KINNECT’s graduate program.
The program offers graduates an above-market salary and a career that allows them to develop as fast as their skills do. Many students who undertake their practical placement have begun their career post-graduation with us and have quickly progressed, like Cailin – read her story.
From time to time, we have paid work opportunities for students before they qualify such as casual Medical Support Officer or Occupational Health Screening roles that fit around their study and personal situation.
Real Workplace Rehabilitation Experience
Hands-on Student Placements & Internships
Designed specifically for students who want to learn more about the workplace rehabilitation industry, our allied health student placements are practical and develop real-world skills.
We work in partnership with your university to ensure that the placement meets both you, and your student’s needs from documentation through to supervision and post-placement opportunities.
KINNECT offers allied health students and their universities:
- A discipline-specific supervisor – if the student is studying exercise physiology, their supervisor will also be an exercise physiologist.
- Work experience within a multi-disciplinary team – students work with other allied health professionals including physiotherapists, psychologists, OTs, AEPs, nurses and rehabilitation counsellors.
- Quality completion of placement records – documentation is always up to date and comprehensive.
- Flexible placement opportunities – we offer short- and long-term placements that start at any time throughout the year, even during holidays.
- Transport from our offices to client sites – students don’t need their own vehicle while on placement.
- A welcoming workplace culture – we genuinely value the participation of the students in our placement programs.
What do students do during their placement?
Students are partnered with an experienced workplace rehabilitation consultant to review and participate in assessments such as:
- Onsite workplace assessments
- Medical case conferences
- Pre-employment screening
- Activities of daily living (ADL) assessments (for OT students)
- Vocational assessments and vocational counselling (for rehabilitation counselling students)
Multiple Placement Opportunities:
We accept applications from students studying in any year of their degree in:
- Rehabilitation Counselling
- Occupational Therapy
- Exercise Physiology
We are also flexible with dates and placement lengths, meaning your students can apply at any time throughout the year (including holidays) for a long or short placement.

Dave Hughes is our General Manager and leads KINNECT’s student placement and internship program.
He has his own KINNECT student placement success story too. A few years ago, Dave actually came to KINNECT for his prac placement while studying at QUT in Brisbane. He impressed the boss (our CEO and founder, Kevin Conlon) so much that he secured himself a job offer when he graduated as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. He did a few years at KINNECT, working at our offices in Cairns and in Brisbane before travelling the world and honing his skills as a Workplace Rehabilitation Consultant.
After working at several different providers and gaining extensive management experience, he returned to KINNECT as our General Manager in 2019 where his focus is on helping KINNECTers develop their skills and reach their full potential.
Knowing first-hand just how instrumental a good student placement can be, Dave is intent on making KINNECT’s an exceptional experience and helping turn out the next generation of workplace rehabilitation professionals.
Give your students the best start to their career with an exceptional practical placement experience.
