Brendon Carter takes on Melbourne Team Manager role, says ‘team performance is my performance’

Brendon Carter of KINNECT Victoria recently accepted a new position as Team Manager in Melbourne. After working his way through Entry, Senior and Lead Consultant Positions – and a stint as KINNECT’s Kulture Captain – Brendon is looking forward to supporting the individuals in his team to develop new skills and succeed in their roles.

Brendon is someone who enjoys continually learning and finding opportunities to develop professionally. An Exercise Physiologist by trade, his career has spanned several industries and roles from personal training to clinical allied health and seven years in hospitality management.

After joining KINNECT in 2019 as an Occupational Health and Rehabilitation Consultant, Brendon quickly advanced, taking every opportunity available to further his skillset.

“I came in at a Consultant level and was doing occupational health – including pre employment medicals etc. and workplace rehab – supporting people through their recovery at work and return to work. It was a new role for me at the time and it had its challenges but felt that I brought a lot of transferrable skills from my previous experience,” said Brendon.

His commitment to continuous development saw him promoted to Senior and then Lead Consultant, working with clients and individuals to drive sustainable recovery outcomes. Having joined the Melbourne office relatively early on, Brendon was part of the small but dedicated team who worked to expand KINNECT’s footprint across the state.

As the team grew, Brendon found himself increasingly interested in using his knowledge and experience to develop the people around him. When the opportunity arose for a Team Manager role, he knew it was the right time to go for it.

“I felt that I wanted to share my experience and develop others in the team – and also learn more about the ‘team management’ side of things.”

“Because we’ve grown so remarkably in Victoria, we’ve had a lot of new starters and I’m really looking forward helping us mature into a fully developed team and continue to consistently deliver positive outcomes for individuals and clients as we grow,” said Brendon.

Last quarter, KINNECT was ranked the top workplace rehabilitation provider for Original Employer Services in the WorkSafe Victoria scheme.

Having worked at KINNECT for more than 3 years, Brendon is a passionate advocate for the company.

“No day is the same at KINNECT, which I love. I get to be out and about seeing different workplaces, building relationships both internally and externally, and interacting with all kinds of people.”

As an employee, I feel like mine and my colleagues’ opinions are valued and our leaders genuinely want to help create a good culture here,” said Brendon.

“My Managers have also been my mentors, and now that I’m taking on this new role, I want do the same for others and support them in achieving their goals. Team performance is my performance.”

When asked about advice he would offer anyone looking to follow a similar career path, Brendon recommended making sure your goals and aspirations are made clear to your Team Leader and Manager.

Brendon said, “The Team Leaders and Managers at KINNECT are really big on helping individuals grow and achieve their professional goals. Make it clear what you want and then be willing to put in the effort to make it happen. As long as your values are in-line with KINNECT’s you won’t go wrong.”

KINNECT’s core values are highly skilled, happy people, creating sustainable value.
