Upload only the full combined compliance certificate

Use the Download Record button after every required immunisation is compliant. If you submit an individual, incomplete or incorrect certificate, your referral will be cancelled, your payment refunded and you will need to submit a new referral.

Stage 2 of your QAS journey

QAS Clinical Placement, Graduate & Qualified Paramedic Medical

Validity

How long your QAS medical lasts.

The validity of your medical depends on the QAS pathway you’re on. Here’s how each pathway works, and when a supplementary medical kicks in.

  • Clinical Placement Student (Undergraduate)

A paramedicine student requiring a medical for QAS clinical placement.

    Validity
Valid for the duration of studies.
    Supplementary medical?
Only required if there is a change to health status while still a student, or if absent from studies for more than 12 months (regardless of change to health status).
  • Graduate Paramedic

An individual who has completed paramedicine studies and now seeks employment with QAS.

    Validity
    Valid for 2 years.
    Supplementary medical?
If a QAS Clinical Placement Medical (as an undergraduate) was completed and graduation occurred less than two years ago, that medical remains valid, a supplementary medical is required before commencing as a Graduate Paramedic.
  • Qualified Paramedic

A qualified paramedic returning to operational duty with QAS.

    Validity
    Valid for 2 years.
    Supplementary medical?
A supplementary medical is required if your health status changes within the validity period, or if you have been away from operational duty for an extended time.

Assessed against QAS Medical Standards.

Every QAS paramedic medical is reviewed by a KINNECT Doctor against the QAS Medical Standards, not a general fitness check.

That means a consistent, defensible determination of fitness for the operational role you’re stepping into, clinical placement, graduate paramedic or qualified paramedic.

Further medical information.

If a medical condition is identified during the assessment that requires further investigation or information from your treating doctor, KINNECT will contact you and provide a referral letter to take to your treating doctor.

Your assessment is finalised by the KINNECT Doctor once the requested information is returned — keeping the QAS pathway moving without unnecessary delays.

Bookings and updates flow through Carelever.

Carelever is the KINNECT booking portal QAS candidates use to self-book appointments, receive reminders and share availability, replacing back-and-forth emails with a single tap from your SMS or inbox.

FAQs

QAS paramedic medical questions, answered.

The questions clinical placement students, graduates and qualified paramedics ask most often about the QAS pathway.

Who needs to complete a QAS medical with KINNECT?

University students undertaking a clinical placement with Queensland Ambulance Service, Graduate Paramedics joining QAS following their studies, and Qualified Paramedics returning to operational duty all need to complete a medical assessment with KINNECT before commencing their role. KINNECT is the preferred provider for QAS for these assessments.

How do I book my appointment?

First complete every required immunisation in Carelever Comply and download one full compliance certificate. Upload that certificate when you submit the location and payment form. Once payment is received, Carelever will send an SMS and email so you can self-book at a KINNECT clinic or provide availability for an affiliate clinic.

How long does the assessment take and what should I wear?

Please arrive on time and allow up to 3 hours to complete the medical and physical assessment. Your confirmation will explain what to bring and wear. Missed appointments or changes within 3 business days may incur fees under the cancellation and reschedule policy.

Who reviews my results and against what standards?

Your results are reviewed by a KINNECT Doctor against the QAS Medical Standards. The doctor reaches a fitness determination based on the role you are stepping into, clinical placement student, graduate paramedic or qualified paramedic.

What happens if a medical condition is identified during the assessment?

If further investigation or information from your treating doctor is required, KINNECT will provide a referral letter. A $184 + GST fee will apply for the letter and the KINNECT Doctor’s review of the additional information. Bring relevant supporting documents to your appointment where possible.

How long is my QAS Medical valid?

A Clinical Placement Medical (undergraduate) is valid for the duration of your paramedicine studies. A Graduate Paramedic Medical and a Qualified Paramedic Medical are each valid for two years. A supplementary medical is required if your health status changes, or if you are absent from your studies for more than 12 months.

I completed a QAS Clinical Placement Medical as a student, do I need a new medical as a graduate?

If you graduated less than two years ago, your QAS Clinical Placement Medical remains valid; however a supplementary medical assessment is required before you commence as a Graduate Paramedic with QAS. If more than two years have passed since your student medical, a full Graduate Paramedic Medical is required.
