Periodic Health Monitoring (also called Health Surveillance) is a structured program of ongoing medical checks for workers exposed to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, biological agents or other workplace hazards. KINNECT designs the program with an Occupational Physician and Occupational Hygienist, runs the periodic assessments through our owned clinics and 300+ affiliate clinics across Australia, and tracks every worker, hazard and due date through our Carelever Monitor platform — so you stay compliant with WHS health monitoring obligations without managing it on a spreadsheet.

What it is

Ongoing health checks that catch small changes before they become harm.

Health Surveillance is a structured program of periodic medical checks for workers exposed to workplace hazards — noise and vibration, ionising radiation, solvents, fumes, dusts, biological agents, lead, isocyanates, silica, asbestos and other substances hazardous to health. By systematically tracking the right markers at the right intervals, we spot early changes and intervene long before a worker is harmed.

Required by law

Many exposures (noise, lead, asbestos, silica, isocyanates and more) trigger statutory health monitoring obligations under Australian WHS regulations. We make sure your program meets them.

Or simply best practice

Even where the law doesn’t require it, surveillance is sound practice for exposures like UV, fatigue, vibration and emerging hazards. We help you decide what’s warranted.

How we build your program

A four-step build, signed off by an Occupational Physician.

Setting up a defensible health monitoring program is complex — you’re mapping hazards to people to tests to frequencies, and you have to keep doing it. We take that off your plate.

    Engage an Occupational Hygienist

    We refer to GCG, our preferred Occupational Hygienist partner, to walk your sites and document every potential exposure your workers face. The output is a comprehensive Health Risk Assessment that ranks each exposure as low, medium or high.

  2. 02

    Engage an Occupational Physician

    Our Occupational and Environmental Physician reviews the Health Risk Assessment and prescribes the medical content of your program — what tests, what intervals, what thresholds — so it meets legislative requirements and reflects best practice for your industry.

    Group workers into Similar Exposure Groups

    KINNECT then maps employees into Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs): workers facing comparable hazards in their day-to-day work. The SEG a worker sits in determines what they’re tested for, and how often.

    Roll out, run and renew

    We handle scheduling, appointments, results, physician review and reporting through Carelever Monitor — and integrate the program with your pre-employment medicals so workers are looked after across the whole employment lifecycle.

    Carelever notifies you when workers are due. Workers get an SMS from KINNECT to confirm location and book an appointment — no chasing required.

    Assessment in-clinic or onsite

    Workers attend a KINNECT clinic or one of our 300+ affiliate clinics, or we come to your site. Tests are determined by their SEG and can include consultation, physical exam, clinical tests and imaging.

    Physician review & reporting

    A KINNECT Occupational Health Doctor reviews every result. You’re notified of any concern or recommendation — and the result is filed back into Carelever for the next cycle.

What is the difference between health monitoring and health surveillance?
The terms are used interchangeably. Both describe the ongoing, scheduled medical checks of workers exposed to specific workplace hazards, designed to detect early health changes.
