Further Information Required for Further Review:

What you need to know

Sometimes the Doctors reviewing the results need further information to be able to finalise a pre-employment assessment.

For instance, the doctor might see something in your results that indicates additional information should be sought from a cardiologist or another specialist. This is called a Further Review.

Below you’ll find information about this process and what you’ll have to do if you receive a Further Information is Required letter after your pre-employment assessment.

Why do I have to provide further information?

If you have been requested to obtain further information, it is so that we can ensure you meet the requirements for:

  • a medical standard such as the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers
  • assessing a person’s fitness to drive for commercial and dangerous goods driving
  • company medical guidelines
  • legislation such as the Coal Mine Worker Health Scheme/Minerals Mines and Quarries
  • an industry-based guideline, such as Transport – Fatigue Management
  • the Australian/New Zealand standard or OHSA on Audiometry
  • TSANZ requirements relating to spirometry
  • your company’s alcohol and other drug policy
  • Domestic Seafarer – AMSA Medical standard
  • health surveillance – either Safework Australia or State and Territory OHS requirements
  • site-based requirements for remote work
  • your position/role and the risk

You should engage with your GP and take the letter with you to obtain this information as soon as possible.

Providing this information quickly will allow KINNECT to review it with our doctor at the earliest opportunity and send a timely response to your employer with the outcome.

Delays in obtaining the information or not actioning the request mean that KINNECT cannot complete your assessment.

What happens if I don’t want to provide the information?

That would be your choice and KINNECT will advise your employer. No further action will occur.

How do I obtain and submit further information?

The Further Review Process

  1. Read the letter sent to you. It will:
  • Detail the specific information KINNECT requires from you.
  • State who you need to get this information from (GP, Specialist, Pharmacy, Audiologist, Sleep Study etc).
  1. Organise Appointments:
  • Schedule necessary appointments with the required health specialists.
  1. Inform KINNECT:
  • Once you have your appointments booked, contact KINNECT via:
  • Email: resultsupdate@kinnect.com.au
  • Phone: 1300 546 632

You’ll need to tell us the date of your appointment or when you will be able to provide the requested information.

  1. Submit Information:
  • After your appointment, follow the instructions in your letter to send the required information to KINNECT.
  • Ensure you use the correct email address provided (resultsupdate@kinnect.com.au) to avoid delays.

Important:

  • Deadline: Please return the requested documents within 5 business days of your initial medical assessment.
  • Special Circumstances: Please notify KINNECT if you require more time to obtain this information.

What happens if the information on my medical condition cannot be obtained from a previous doctor?

You are still required to visit your GP, who will provide a letter to KINNECT stating that:

  • when the medical condition occurred (e.g. in what timeframe);
  • the status of the condition (e.g. it is now being treated/investigated/stable);
  • what ongoing management is required (e.g. Nil, ongoing medication, regular follow-up, ongoing treatment); and
  • what impact it would have to your role (e.g. Nil, requires a restriction or a health management plan).

Why do I have to get a specialist report and not a GP report?

Certain medical standards for pre-employment assessments state that the diagnosis and treatment of a medical condition determine who must provide a report. For example:

  • Diabetes – diet-controlled: this may only require a GP report and a pathology test.
  • Diabetes – Type 2: this often requires a specialist report as the standard indicates that the condition must be controlled, with management at annual review.

These requirements are set out in each of the medical standards we work with, and the KINNECT doctor must apply the guidelines.

What happens after I submit the further information?

KINNECT will compile the new information with your previous medical results. We’ll update your employer and have the information reviewed again by our doctor.

The doctor will provide an updated fitness outcome, which KINNECT will provide to your employer.
