Ambulance victoria clinical placement medical assessment

KINNECT is a proud provider of the Ambulance Victoria Clinical Placement Medical and Physical Assessment for university paramedicine students.

This assessment is a requirement for your clinical placement with Ambulance Victoria.

Please carefully review the instructions below to ensure your appointment runs smoothly and to avoid delays, additional fees, or an unfit outcome. 

You must complete each step in numerical order (e.g. Step 1 and then Step 2).

Please note, you must supply all requested information in each step in order for your medical and physical assessment to be completed.

STEP 1

Immunisations

Before your appointment can be scheduled, you must submit immunisation evidence that meets Ambulance Victoria’s requirements.

Your immunisation records will not be reviewed until after your appointment. It is your responsibility to ensure the documents you upload meet Ambulance Victoria’s requirements. Records that are incomplete, incorrect, or do not meet the standards may result in your assessment being marked unfit and may incur additional fees.

Immunisation Requirements

Please ensure your records meet the standards below. Uploads must be official documents (e.g. MyGov immunisation history or serology reports) and must include your full name and date of birth. 

Immunisation What Proof You Need to Provide
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Proof of one adult dose of dTpa (diptheria/tetanus/pertussis) within the last 10 years.
❌ ADT is not accepted.
Hepatitis B Ideal:

  • Proof of 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine AND
  • Serology pathology report report showing Anti-HBs ≥10 mlU/ml

Other accepted combinations:

  • Proof of past Hep B infection (anti-HBc positive)
  • Evidence of being a persistent non-responder after 2 full vaccination courses (with supporting serology pathology report and dates)

Minimum required:

  • 2 doses of Hepatitis B and a date booked for your 3rd dose
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) Any one of the following:

  • 2 doses of MMR (at least 1 month apart)
  • Positive IgG serology for all three (measles, mumps, rubella)
  • Born before 1966
Varicella (Chickenpox) Any one of the following:

  • 2 doses of varicella vaccine (1 dose OK if vaccinated before age 14)
  • Positive IgG serology pathology report
  • GP letter confirming past chickenpox/shingles infection (serology pathology report if unsure)
Influenza A current-year flu vaccine certificate from MyGov/AIR
OR
An official medical exemption signed by your GP only for:

  • Anaphylaxis to a previous flu vaccine
  • Anaphylaxis to a vaccine ingredient (as per the Australian Immunisation Handbook)

Instructions: 

  • Upload official immunisation evidence, such as MyGov immunisation history or serology reports. 
  • Do not upload GP checklists or handwritten records – these will not be accepted. 
  • Uploads must be in PDF format only. 
  • All records must clearly include your full name and date of birth. 

To avoid delays or an unfit outcome, please review the VIC Ambulance immunisation criteria carefully and ensure all documentation meets the standards before uploading.

Ambulance Victoria Student Placement – Immunisation Records Form (TO BE COMPLETED)

This form is required to submit your immunisation records prior to your Ambulance Victoria medical assessment. Please complete all fields and follow the instructions carefully to avoid delays in booking your appointment. 

STEP 2

Payment for Your Assessment

Please fill in the form below. This enables us determine the type of assessment you require and the appropriate cost based on your selected appointment location.

STEP 3

Appointment Confirmation

Once your referral has been created and your payment has been received, you will receive an SMS and email from Carelever. 

  • This message will contain a link to self-book your appointment (if attending KINNECT South Melbourne), OR submit your availability and preferred location (if requesting another clinic). 

Appointment confirmations and all other important details (what to bring, clinic address, etc.) will be sent to you via SMS and email. 

STEP 4

Attend Your Appointment

Please arrive on time to your confirmed appointment and allow up to 3 hours to complete your medical and physical assessment. 

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing – running shoes/trainers and gym wear is ideal.

What to expect on the day: 

  • Review of your medical history 
  • Physical function assessment 
  • Drug and alcohol testing 
  • Spirometry (lung function) testing 

⚠️ Important:
If you fail to attend your scheduled appointment or cancel/reschedule within 24 hours, you will be charged fees in line with our cancellation policy.

STEP 5

Results & Fitness Work Determination 

Your assessment results will be reviewed by a KINNECT Occupational Health Doctor in accordance with Ambulance Victoria’s medical standards. 

You will receive: 

  • A Fitness for Work Summary Report 
  • A review of your uploaded immunisation records 

These results will be sent to you via email within 2 business days of your appointment, provided no further testing or additional information is required. 

ℹ️ Please ensure you check your inbox and spam folder for your results. 

Assessment Validity

Ambulance Victoria will accept your medical and functional assessment for a period of: 

  • 5 years, if you maintain continuous study 
  • 3 years, if your studies are interrupted for 12 months or more 

If you graduate and later apply for a position with Ambulance Victoria, a new assessment will be required.
