Glencore Australia - Clermont

  • CLIENT: Glencore
  • SECTOR: Mining & Commodity Trading
  • SERVICES: Onsite Physiotherapy
Glencore Onsite Physiotherapy

In Australia, Glencore hold significant interests in a range of commodity industries across all mainland states and the Northern Territory. Glencore’s six commodity departments include coal, copper, nickel, zinc, oil and Glencore Agriculture.

Since 2008, Glencore has invested over $24 billion into Australia, building new operations and sustaining existing operations. Glencore currently employs 18,000 people, including contractors, across 24 mines in Australia.

Glencore manages operations at Clermont on behalf of a joint venture between Glencore and Sumitomo Corporation, J-Power Australia Pty Ltd and J. C. D. Australia Pty Ltd.

Clermont is a large scale open-cut operation, located approximately 12 kilometres from the town of Clermont in central Queensland.

After commencing operations in 2010, Clermont now produces approximately 12 million metric tonnes of high energy thermal coal with relatively low ash and sulphur using a truck and shovel method.

The low Run of Mine strip ratio (3.2:1) and minimal processing (90% coal does not require washing) combined with the high quality coal, means the mine has a first quartile margin position in the seaborne thermal coal market.

After processing at Clermont, coal is transported by an overland conveyor to the stockpile and rail loading facilities at the nearby Blair Athol mine. The coal is exported primarily through the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.

Glencore Clermont employs approximately 629 people.

Scope

KINNECT currently provides Glencore with onsite physiotherapy services at Clermont. This project is ongoing and has been in place since June 2018. Our physiotherapist works nine hours a week onsite at Clermont. Appointments are 30 minutes in duration per person. Our physiotherapist provides one on one treatment sessions to treat and identify causes of discomfort/injury as well as onsite ergonomic assessments and manual handling. Should the cause of the discomfort/injury be identified as work related, Glencore Clermont is provided with opinions on potential controls that would reduce further re-occurrence.

KINNECT’s onsite physiotherapy programs not only provide treatment, but they are aimed at educating and reinforcing self-management to minimise any dependence on “hands on” intervention.
