The Humour Foundation

Clown Doctors

Their website is:

What does this organisation do?

The Humour Foundation is an Australian charity dedicated to promoting and delivering the health benefits of humour.  Clown Doctors treat children in hospital with doses of fun and laughter.  Many kids in hospital face a hard time.  Clown Doctors address the psychosocial needs of the child in hospital in a unique way.  By parodying the hospital routine, the Clown Doctors help children feel less traumatised by medical procedures.  ‘Clown Rounds’ are conducted through all wards including intensive care and oncology, and most clinics including emergency and burns.  Children can forget their illness for a moment and return to a world of fantasy and play.

What tasks did you assist with?

I participated in the 3-day Ride for a Smile Cycle Classic, coordinated by Entoure.  The ride covered approximately 350 km over the 3 days; taking in the many beautiful sights of Kingscliff, Casuarina, Pottsville, Mullumbimby, Coorabell, Murwillumbah, Byron Bay and much more.  All funds raised from the ride go to support the Clown Doctors program in at the Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane and the Gold Coast Hospital.

What was a fun fact about your day / the organisation?

Total funds raised were close to $120,000 which was a fantastic result!
